for president you see it right there, john, 50% for president obama, 44% for romney. that's a nice lead for obama in the key battleground state of ohio. if you take a look at florida, you see right now in our poll of polls the average among the most recent polls in florida, 49% for obama, 45% for romney. the question to you, john, can romney win without winning ohio and florida? >> in a word, wolf. i took a walk over here to show. the answer is no. you just mentioned ohio and florida. states the president carried four years ago. states governor romney very much needs to win this time. go to the electoral map to show you why. final six weeks, 237 electoral votes strong or leaning the president's way. these are the toss up states. the golden states. forget the rest of them. if the president can keep that lead and carry florida, if the president can keep that lead and carry ohio, the race is to 270, wolf, that would be in two words game over. >> gloria, if you look at the strength that the president has in these states, you see something fascinating. >> it is. i call it the empathy questio
the way back up to 42% right at the peak where it was during the obama presidency. so the question is why are people feeling a little better about the economy? of course,ou see this in some of t other pollss well. let's lookt three indicator that really homehen i cotondua and what they have. the first is disposable personal income. we've talked about the pressures on income on this show, and there are real pressures on incomes. but there's al a little bit of good news, which is real disposable per capita inco. that's a mouthful, b that's eiocket every month, has actually been on a pretty steady rise since last fall. and so if you look at trends, there's more money going into people's pockets, and they are spending it. consumer spending is up faster than it has bn in several years. a cond tng that' very rt tpl air prices. the loss of home equity was devastating. you're now seeing for the first time -- we've had some false starts as you see down here as the housing market hit bottom. but you're now seeing for the first time a rise in housing vaes that most economists believe is sustnabl thi
romney wants to cut it. right? he doesn't say that. the top strategist for president obama says oh, before an election is not time to talk about it. they're going to do the grand bargain after the election and cut your social security. i'm trying to look out for you. remember in 2008, oh, change, change, change. did we change the way government worked? unfortunately, not yet. the lobbyists are still in charge and sometime coming for your middle class money. when we come back, we've had a mess with the nfl. did you know one of the reasons we're having that mess is mitt romney's friend? paul ryan accidentally supports the nfl referees union. watch. >> it is time to get the real refs. it reminds me of president obama and the economy. if you can't get it right it's time to get out. >> really good spoken for the romney, ryan ticket, as well. >> just when you thought republicans couldn't get more offensive, here comes scott brown in massachusetts. >>i jump out of my skin at people when i'm upset. they're doing this this corruption based on corruption based on corruption. >>that's an unde
refs. and you know what? it reminds me of president obama and the economy. if you can't get it right, it is time to get out. [applause] i have to think that these refs were part-time from the obama administration and the budget office. they see the national debt clock staring them in the face. they see a debt crisis. and they ignore and pretend it didn't even happen. they're trying to pick the winners and losers and they don't even do that very well. look, we have a big choice to make. this is not an ordinary time. it is not an ordinary election. we're not simply choosing who is going to be the next president for four more years. we are choosing what kind of country is america going to be for a generation. [applause] that's the kind of choice we have in front of us. and i'll say this. we're here in a fourth generation family business. we are here in a building that creates jobs, that promotes work. that struggles in global re here in a place that is the embodiment of the american idea. track/wrong track is going up at just the right time for president obama. >> right. in places like ohio, the economy's been better than it has been, at least across the country, on average. rich lawry has a smart column, a conservative columnist, piece in "politico" this morning where he talks about the effect that bill clinton's speech seems to have had on this race. that basically he did a better job than anyone else at saying any of the problems that are still out there, you can't dump them all on president obama. and lawry argues that that was an effective argument. it seems like since then the numbers have changed appreciably. and i think they're more linked to the convention than they are to the data ratner's talking about. there's no doubt everything he's pointed to is real, but i think politics and perception is often shaped by these big events and sort of how you feel emotionally, and that's what's getting picked up. >> all right. jim vandehei, packer fan, you can't get that win back, but we got the refs back. >> i'm still hoping we get that win back. >>> coming up next, a litt

obama to decisively talk about the military option. do i have that right? >> absolutely. what i want is a black and white clear statement from the president to the people and the leaders of iran why are you undergoing sanctions. we're not going to let you develop a nuclear bomb. we're not going to tell you when, but we're telling you under no circumstances are we going to allow you to have a nuclear bomb. and if it comes to it, we will use the military option. now, the president's come close to saying that. he has said we'll do what we have to do. no option is off the table. we're using prevention, not containment, but i wish he would speak a little bit more clearly and stop some of his subordinates. after all, vice president biden condemned mitt rochl any for are you saying we should be readied to go to war? yes, we should be ready to go to war with iran and if we're ready to go to war with iran and iran knows it, we won't have to go to war with iran. >> and general clark, welcome back. he also writes that president obama has called the concerns over iran noise, quote/unquote, and t
